Having successfully completed our 6th year we wish to than all our guests over the  years for making it such great fun. We have met many, many wonderful and interesting people who have made this the best job in the world.

It has been so exciting and rewarding in many ways. We have a lovely community of friends here in Ojen and many of our guests have also become great friends.

Here's a bit about the serious business

Tuition

Eddie's approach to teaching painting is highly professional yet supremely informal. Having taught for over 12 years he has a wealth of experience of teaching beginners to teh more advanced advanced as well as the odd professional artists who join us from time to time.

From his formal education at Duncan of Jordanstone Art College, teachings from his late father, Grezegor Lange, and personal experimentation, students can tap into his vast knowledge and experiences. He is a patient and encouraging tutor with a passion for his subject. (please see a selection of our customers Testimonials )

As a further testimonial to his painting ability he is invited to talk, demonstrate and take master clases for Art Scoieties.

Personal attention on our painting holidays is paramount and therefore we accommodate for small groups of up to 6 people painting.  The tuition is set at each student's own level of ability, catering for beginners and for the more accomplished artist.   Through his father's teaching and his own research, Eddie uses some techniques which are all but lost to today's teaching establishments. Please see Eddie's C.V. Eddie's C.V.

The main aim of the course is to develop skills to enable you to carryout painting from life.

The duration of each session is 2 and a half hours and there are 10 sessions over 5 days

We focus on composition, colour identification, mixing and application, creating depth, space and atmosphere. The course is designed to build up knowledge and skills over the course resulting in a solid grounding in painting from life, revealing the techniques of a professional artist. Locations have been selected out of the general public view, shaded for the painter but with the subject in the sun, allowing you time to get familiar with the equipment (easels), materials and the teaching with little interruptions or distractions.

Eddie always paints alongside the group and guides you through the planned progress of each painting, step by step. Eddie explains here;

“We start with initial drawing in, focussing firstly on selection and structure, composition and perspective - where we place our subject on the page. By doing this we can also discern what are to be the darks and lights of the painting, picking out contrast.

We draw the subject loosely on the paper. Then, with a broad brush, we work from the general to the particular, using a limited palette of colours ensuring colour harmony.”

As our groups are small, individual tuition and attention is assured with no one left floundering. The days are fun, the locations varied, and the setting is friendly and non-competitive environment.

Eddie stands with his father's work, City Chambers, Dundee.

Eddie teaches in all mediums; water colour, oils, acrylic and pastel.

Natalia, who travelled to join us from California and produced amazing colour and vibrancy with acrylics, possibly reflecting her Columbian roots.

We understand that this may be the first time for some to be painting outdoors. Therefore we have designed a course where you start off your painting on simple subjects out of the eye of the public, building up skills and confidence with locations carefully chosen for the composition, colour as well as aesthetic qualities.  But be assured, the people of Ojen are very humbled by your presence and take pleasure in you painting their beautiful village.

A relaxed informal and informative critique is offered at the end of the each course

Azmat & Parveen look on at their crit. June 2006

"One thing, having painted from life here in Spain for some 6 years, I have learned that the traditional white houses of Andalucia are anything but white and still marvel at the famous illusive Andalucian light which has me mesmerized every time. Colours are magically thrown up into buildings and streets, creating colourful shadows and effects."

Eddie I have been painting professionally all my adult life.  In addition to being formally trained, at the Duncan of Jordanstone, University of Art, I was fortunate to learn a great deal from my late father, Gregory Lange, an extremely talented and knowledgeable painter. I have travelled and exhibited extensively, painting Sheikhs, Sultans and other royalty including a commission to paint the portrait of the late Queen Mother, celebrating her 100th birthday. I work in all mediums, specialising in oils, acrylics and water-colours.Being a professional artist has for over 30 years and has taken to a great many interesting places and meeting many wonderful people. In 2004 I was commissioned to paint two oil paintings for the Dubai Government. A great honour, and presently I am completing a water colour for the Crown Prince of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to commemorate his visit to Dundee, Scotland. The pictures below are of me undertaking preliminary sketches for the final piece. During the last 5 years we have been teaching in water-colours mostly, with a few oil and acrylics painters . Although being predominantly a working artist I have had the pleasure to teach art for nearly 25 years in art clubs and societies as well as from my own studios. I feel strongly that I impart my artistic knowledge, allowing my students to gain more experience and techniques. Our painting holidays give an excellent opportunity for students to be immersed in their medium and develop their own very unique styles, or "signatures", as I call it.  This course is excellent for beginners and we can guarantee an inspiring learning environment.

GillMy partner, (of some 30 years), Gill, is very much the co-coordinator of our holidays. Qualified in the profession of Community  Education she has immense experience of working with people from all walks of life and possesses excellent organisational skills. "Although I am an "capable" painter and derive much pleasure from painting , I have for the last 5 years focused on learning about photography and developing my love of writing.   I immensely enjoyed writing a travel journal for one year for one of Scotland's largest publications "The Courier".Receiving reports from home when Eddie and I were off on our travels in our van that I was published was thrilling. I now write for myself and have taken to fiction and venturing into a  bit of script writing. Just great fun.  Gill, enjoying the shade. May 2005.It was during our 8 months van travels in early 2001 that we first discovered Ojen. We had travelled the breadth of Spain up to Galicia, down the full length of Portugal and then south to the sparkling Mediterranean. We ventured over the Gibraltar Straight to Morocco and back to Spain. Ojen was a tiny village on the ,map and we were in need of some piece and quiet following an arduous Christmas and New Year in Marbella. On the 4th January 2001 we arrived in the village, stepped out the van and Ojen greeted us like a warm blanket. The people so welcoming, the village so pretty. We pitched up and fell in love. It is not over doing it by saying Ojen has changed our lives forever. As a distinctive part of our package you will be presented on the final day with a CD of photographs of your holiday which you can play over on your return home. “My role is to take care of all the "domestic" arrangements, meeting you at the airport, making sure you are well taken care of by the very professional teams of the hotel and restaurants. I love meeting new people and finding out all about them. I also enjoy introducing people to the very magical Ojen and St Andrews and their amazing local features and people. Both have so much to offer and there is always something new to discover.

I am always on hand during your holiday and happy to assist in any way."
