Ojen the Village, home of our painting holidays
Hola y bienvendo
to beautiful Andalucia and our painting holidays.
Tucked away on the
side of the Sierras de las Nieves mountain range lies the pretty Spanish village
of Ojen with its white narrow streets, festooned
with flowers flowing from balconies, windows and terracotta pots all gently
descend and open to the heart of the village, the Plaza Andalucia.
The
Plaza Andalucia and the Church
Here stands the ancient church still bearing its
original Arabic ceiling and minaret, a rare example of the Moors who made this their home
here for over 8 centuries, leaving their
legacy in the architecture, the people and the pace of life.

Orange and lemon blossoms scent the morning
and jasmine drifts through the streets and around the plaza in the evening

La Tienda, The
Old Shop
Ojen is famous for it's friendly people and
everyone is greeted with a warm "hola" as they go about their village
life

Typical street
To the north stands the dramatic backdrop of the Sierra de
las Nieves National Park, a declared Biosphere Reserve. Abundant flora and fauna
surrounds the village and trees sing with colourful birds from Africa.
To the south the landscape falls through a complex, ancient network of
huertas (fruit and vegetables allotments) to the Mediterranean

The relaxing climate reflects the pace of life here and it is
impossible not to succumb to the very essence of Andalucia, "tranquillo". Sitting outside the small cafe bars sipping coffee as the village life unfolds is a most
pleasurable and relaxing pastime.
La fuentes de los chorro fuente
The ancient Fuentas de los Chorros flows with crisp, clear
mountain water, attracting people from all around as it is said to hold health-giving
properties. It flows through a series of channels dating back to the
Moorish era and is still used today, irrigating the nearby vegetable gardens and orange
and lemon groves which expand and flourish down the mountain below the village.
Tilling the soil
The beautiful simplicity of stimulating
subjects offers the artist endless inspiration on this painting holiday.

It's true. Around every corner there is another
inspiring view.
