Welcome to the Royal Burgh of St
Andrews and Tayside
Basing ourselves in the delightful historic
town of St Andrews, in the Kingdom of Fife, we travel in and around the Fife and
Tayside areas. We have an abundance of painting locations which are so very
perfect and so very varied: townscapes, landscapes, our fishing villages and
ancient forests and woodlands, blue flag beaches, and the old working harbours
are all within our reach.

St Andrews is just a step from our own home in
Scotland and we are confident that we can guarantee the best of all that is on
offer in our homeland. The town, with years of experience in hospitality, has
welcomed visitors from all over the world and yet retains it's very distinct and
proud Scottish personality being home to many historical events and is a recognised cultural and heritage site. St
Andrews enjoys a thriving art scene with a
well established amateur art community.
Architecture of the
Royal Burgh

St Andrews Castle
St Andrews Cathedral
The
ancient architecture is stunning and the St Andrews University, the oldest
university in Scotland, was founded in 1410 and stands in the university's
beautiful gardens and grounds. Visitors are welcomed to visit and paint within
the two college quads, one of which harbours a thorn tree planted by Mary, Queen of
Scots.
St
Andrews has been a Royal Burgh for over 400 years but it has been a market town for longer. The town is still laid out for the stalls
and market traders. Many of the old wynds still remain, as well as vaulted gatehouses
and arched closes.
But always on the skyline are the grand and
ancient, such as St Rules Tower and St Andrews Cathedral from the 12th century,
Built as a result of the religious settlement which was established when, as legend
tell us, a Greek monk brought the relics of St Andrews, one of Christ's
apostles to be buried here, establishing St Andrews as an important religious
centre for pilgrims of medieval times. Many of the town buildings are of
interest and alongside the grand and celebrated buildings of St Andrews we have
the original fishing cottages, proud town houses and the old fishing harbour, all
of which offers the artist rich character and inspiring views.
The Sea
Tentsmuir
and the River Tay
The Firth of Forth
St Andrews town itself is home to fantastic
painting holiday locations being surrounded by the sea with award winning sweeping beaches and
river estuaries abundant with sea birds: gannets and terns, or seals and
dolphins swimming off shore The air is particularly clear here, gifting the
artist with
never ending skies. St Andrews Old Harbour, plus the few fishing villages
of the East Neuk, all still working, where you can sample fish
and seafood being landed for sale.

Around St Andrews & the
East Neuk of Fife
Anstruther
We travel to the surrounding coastal
towns and villages, as St Andrews is a gateway to many ancient and prehistoric
settlements including the East Neuk of Fife such as Pittenweem, St Monans, Crail and
Anstruther. Close by is Tentsmuir Forest with protected endangered
species of plants and insects, including an abundance of dragonflies and
butterflies. Just off shore is a noisy and healthy community of hundreds of grey seals.
Crail
Another few miles to the East the farmlands of the
Howe of Fife gently roll their colourful harmonious patchwork of hills and
valleys into the distance.
With townscapes, seascapes and landscapes,
fishing villages, ancient forests and the incredibly magical famous rolling farmlands
of Fife this is a
real treat for any artist to keep the creative juices flowing.
